Veganism is madness you say? Or perhaps a much better way to live? Each to their own, but here at iKegger we accept everyone, even vegans and pass no judgement - we have some vegans among us. And if you are a vegan, here are some ways iKegger can help you to live your life in the most environmentally friendly and ethical manner.
In life we usually associate bigger with better, but that isn't always the case and definitely not when it comes to home brewing. Small batch brewing refers to a batch under 5 gallons down to as little as one gallon (or if you are into litres which I am, between 3 and 18L although starter kits stick to around 5L). It makes it cheap and easy for newbies to get into or experienced home brewers to experiment.
So we decided that the Fermentasaurus is a great bit of brewing kit at a really good price. It has basically the same feature set as a stainless conical fermenter in that you can remove the trub without exposing your brew to air or having to rack it to another container. It is also fantastic in that you can ferment under pressure and also use it as a keg! The one thing it lacks when compared to say to say a Grainfather or SS Brewtech Conical is the ability to control the temperature during fermentation unless you put the whole thing in a fridge... Well we decided to fix that!
We spent one hour building a 4 tap mini kegerator that can be used for up to 30L of 4 different drinks! You could have nitro cold brew coffee, 2 beers and negronis on tap all out of one little bar fridge!
Launched in 2013 Tap King looked like being a decent option for people wanting to have beer on tap at home. After buying the plastic dispenser and a 3.2L disposable plastic bottles of a select range of beers you simply took them home, chilled them and then attached them to the dispenser to have beer on tap in the fridge. On paper it sounded good, in reality it left quite a bit to be desired before it's collapse in 2016
So here we are for round 2 of our blog series about the best beers produced in Australia in 2016. As a quick recap for those who didn't see the 1st edition, the idea behind this blog series is to contact all the amazing little craft breweries around Australia and ask them what beer they were most proud of producing in 2016.
We decided to do things a little differently with this list. We have approached breweries from around Australia and asked them what beer they were most proud of producing in 2016! What we are hoping is to start a list of beers that the people who know best, the brewers, think we should try. We will do this in a series of posts, each of which will have 5 breweries responses to our questions about their best beer of 2016 along with a couple of hints about what to expect from them in 2017. So without further ado, presented in no particular order I give to you...
Marina was obviously happy with her choice and went for a second pale ale. I was impressed with my ESB, it's a style I love and perfect for a cold day with a nice warm malty character but after trying a sip of the Hunter Valley Shiraz barrel aged imperial stout I immediately switched to that. There could not be a better beer for a day like today than the almost Christmassy flavours of dried fruits and coffee and with a 10.5% abv I very quickly forgot how cold I'd been moments earlier
